Kind of relative to how far (and how much it costs) you need to travel compared to how long you plan to spend there. For me coming from the UK somewhere like Poland (cheap Ryanair flights) may be cheapest for a week, but for 3 months somewhere like India is going to be way cheaper.
Then again there is no point going somewhere that is cheap if you don't have an interest in that place.
