Do I really need to buy travel insurance?
Quote from lucaitaly on November 12, 2024, 10:57 pmI'm planning on going backpacking but I'm on a really tight budget... and the quotes I've had for travel insurance are hundreds. I can afford it but would prefer to put this towards travel, so am I crazy? I can't be the only one travelling without it?

You make the perfect itinerary, plan everything from hotels to flights to local transport immaculately and you are ready to fly to your dream destination. Wait for a second.. are you really ready to fly without travel insurance?
I know travel insurance is one of the last things people have on mind when planning a trip and can see why some travellers say it is a waste of money.
But NO is the answer. Anything can happen on travel so its best to be prepared. You might be having the best time ever and suddenly you slip and break your leg. If you aren't insured then let me assure you, you could spend a fortune on a hospitalisation abroad that can break your bank balance.
Never travel without a travel insurance. This will not only cover medical expenses but also many things which you might have to face during your travels. There are lots of cheap policies too, view this guide to cheap gap year and backpacker insurance.
