Homestays in South America

Does anyone have experience of staying with a Latin American home stay?
I've been searching the Internet for a while to try and find home stays in central and South America. There are so many websites and I'm not sure which ones to trust. Has anyone here , got any advice for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For what??? Holiday, language immersion? Don't like hostels/hotels???
Would Couchsurfing fulfil your needs??.
Years ago I was placed with different family for language school. First was ok, second was crap.. 3rd I found myself!.. Don't commit to anything longer than a week
