How to find work in Asia but NOT as an English Teacher
Quote from emma28 on November 19, 2024, 12:31 pmHas anyone else managed to find a job in Asia (Thailand/Southeast Asia/China/India) that doesn't involve teaching English?
I've done the teaching English thing and I would really rather not do it again. Fine if you're good at it, but to me it's hell.
I'm a qualified journalist (and I know not to mention that on visa applications) so if I could find something that involved writing/editing/proofing/social media, then, great! Are such jobs available for foreigners in Asia? And if so, where would I look?
I'm not looking to get rich, btw - just to make enough to keep myself alive.
Thanks!

Freelancing as you go works really well for many. The buzzword for the latter is Digital Nomad. There are facebook groups and all sorts of articles targeting that crowd with advice.
If you have the experience you could always try being a journalist for one of the English-language newspapers such South China Morning Post (Hong Kong), Straits Times (Singapore), Bangkok Post etc if they're recruiting or maybe one of the publishing houses such as Asia Books in Thailand.
Also, don't want to point out the bleeding obvious, but maybe freelance work through upwork or similar sites? Or, constant content...I wrote a bit for them. It's ok money, but hard to get the ball rolling.
Hope you find something, Asia is a great place to live and work - good luck !
