How to get into the travel industry?
Quote from stacey25 on January 11, 2025, 11:00 pmHi all,
I have recently just returned from 1.5 years of travelling around the world! My dream is to be in the travel industry but since travelling I want to help other backpackers. I wrote a blog of my travels when i travelled Asia for 6 months. I am thinking of going back to Australia and trying to be a travel agent then carry on travelling or do I stay here in London and pursue a career??
Please help any advice!
Thanks
Stacey

You say 'travel industry' which covers a whole lot of ground. Then you say 'travel agent' which is only one small but specific part of the travel industry.
A travel agent is basically a clerk in most agencies with little or no real knowledge of travel. They just 'book' stuff for people. If you are willing to settle for that, not much education is required but the opportunities are quite limited. Making a career out of being an agent for FlightCentre is not most people's idea of a good lifelong career choice.
Being wishy washy about what you want will get you nowhere. Decide on a goal, then figure out a plan.
