Is Workaway Worth Doing?

Hello travellers,

I'm about to finish my 3-year work contract (April), so I would like to finally realize my big dream, which is backpacking for several months, slowly and without a too tight schedule, with the freedom of deciding what to do day-by-day. I want to travel mainly overland, because I want to live on my skin the changing of landscapes, of cultures, and maybe to stop also in some off-the-beaten path places.

Of course, I have some kind of itinerary. More or less is the following:
- Starting in May from Italy, about 2 months through East Europa (Slovenia, Hungary, Poland, Baltic Republics)
- About 2 months in SE Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore)
- 1 month in Australia

What I would like to do is to also live with local people, so not being only a "tourist", to better understand the culture of the country. I also want to travel low-budget, so some months ago I found the "workaway" platform, and the idea behind that seems quite interesting to me.

Basically I would like to know if someone of you have experiences with that. In particular, I am wondering if it is easy to find hosts which accept guests for short amounts of time (e.g. 1 or 2 weeks), since given the itinerary it's difficult for me to stay like 1 month in a single place. This is something not really clear to me, so maybe you have experiences/reviews on that?

I also have tons (!) of questions on different topics (like visa, etc.), but it's I guess it's better to ask them in a different thread.

Cheers!

Luca

I don't know what workaway is, but beware that if you don't have a Work Visa for Australia and you are planning to do some kind of work then you will be refused entry to Australia.
