Should I bother visiting Perth?
Quote from Sarah02 on November 4, 2024, 10:09 pmI'm planning to fly from Bangkok to Australia but can't decide whether to fly to Perth or go straight to Sydney? My friend said Perth is very isolated and boring compared to Sydney and Melbourne. But when I see pictures it looks cool so after flying all the way there would it be stupid to miss it?

Yes your friend is correct Perth is a very isolated city... You cannot go over there expecting it to be like Sydney or Melbourne - they are busy/cramped cities, Perth is more spread out and relaxed.
Scarbs and Cot - are both gorgeous beaches... If you go to these on a Sunday you can then go to the pub across the road from each and enjoy the Sunday Sesh(very popular in summer)!!
Fremantle is just down the road from Cottesloe(Cot)... Thats a nice place to look around with old buildings and of course beaches!!
I guess if you go with your eyes closed and don't bother to look around you wont find Perth interesting - just like any city you visit!
Not sure how long your here for but you can go out to the Swan Valley - take a cruise down the swan to there!! You can take a 2-3hour trip south to Bunbury, Dunsborough or even north to Lancelin - all gorgeous coastal towns.
I'd even recommend traveling to the northern suburbs - Port Hedland or Karratha or Broome for the more "country/coastal" feel.
For pubs/clubs.... weekends most people head out in Perth, Northbridge, Fremantle or the Casino(Burswood).... Cottesloe and Scarborough do good Sunday Sesh!
I guess you either love somewhere or hate it - you would know within a few days of being in a city!

Its a small friendly city, and there are some spectacular road trips north and south (Margaret River is great for wine). Like someone said above, if you have the schedule/budget include it, if not head to Melbourne or Sydney,
