South Africa solo travel safety and general advice

Hi everyone...just wanting to see if anyone has been to South Africa and if so, how you did it? Did you go alone or with a tour company? Which company did you go with? Did you do a Safari and with who? Recommendations?

Thanks

I did a tour with Oasis Overland, it was great. They do trips throughout Africa inc South Africa using big overlanding trucks. I went from Cape Town to Durban via the Garden Route - it was an amazing trip with a mixed group mainly from the UK. I would recommend either an orgaised tour or doing something like the BazBus which is like a backpacker bus service taking in the main destinations. Cape Town is spectacular don't miss is!! Crime is a big issue so always follow local advice. For safaris there are so many options inc the Kruger Park.

I went to SA and loved it!! I went through a travel agent in the UK and booked with a tour company called Kuoni. It was a little bit more expensive but it was worth it for the food and the nice hotels. On the tour we did a couple of safaris, we did 2 in the Kruger National Park one was a night one and the other a full day one. We did one later on in the tour further south but i cant remember where, i think it was a water one in St Lucia?!?!
