Travel to Central America or South America...or both?

Hi there,

I was hoping to get some advice on the right path to take to travel from Mexico via Central America to South America. My first concern is budget. I have roughly £4000 in total to take with me. I do plan to take up volunteer opportunities in exchange for a bed at different stages throughout my trip to make my money last. However even with doing that is it too little to cover Mexico, CA and SA?

The countries I planned to visit are as follows: Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Chile. Most of the activities I really want to do are in SA i.e. Salt Flats, Sky Lodge, Machu Picchu. Would it be more realistic to just fly from Mexico to Colombia and cut out CA? I was looking forward to Lake Atitlan (Guatemala) and volcano surfing in Nicaragua but it's not top of my list. I can travel for up to 7 months if the budget lasts. Any advice welcome!

Thank you in advance.

In 7 months you can get from Mexico to Colombia, try to see how long your budget lasts and figure out everything else on the way. I wouldn't suggest trying to see EVERYTHING in 7 month, but you can see how well it goes 😉 Good luck!
