Community Development Volunteer Programs Abroad

Volunteers

Are you looking to spend your gap year doing something worthwhile? Apply to join a community volunteering project.

There are many people around the world who cannot access the basic rights of food, security, education or health. Lots of local and international organisations work to support local people around the world so that they can access their basic rights and improve their living standards.

Organisations welcome volunteers who are willing to support and give care to communities. On most programs, international volunteers work together alongside local volunteers and staff to visit communities to learn about the local lifestyle.

Work with Underprivileged Communities

Gap years are a brilliant way of discovering the world and living the life to it’s fullest. It’s a life-altering adventure that will help you develop as a person in so many ways by opening your eyes to new cultures and ways of life.

Another rewarding and fulfilling way to make this trip more memorable is by volunteering on community projects. There are programs in countries like India, South Africa and Cambodia which are always eager to gain help from volunteers with farm work, building and construction and education by teaching English.

With projects helping communities in over 50 countries worldwide, you can be sure to find the placement that will be just right for you.

Some organisations have been providing placements for decades and offer a range of development projects in a variety of different communities that will provide cultural enrichment and the chance to explore a country as a local.

You will also be able to make an extremely important contribution to securing a brighter future for those who need it most.

How You Can Help

Join local NGO’s and charities for some amazing experiences. With marginalised communities around the world in need of the time and manpower that volunteers are able to provide in order to develop their communities and work towards a more secure future, community development projects are the perfect way to make a lasting and definite contribution to the community you will become a part of.

International volunteers can help with include outreach, building schools, painting buildings, working at orphanages and other activities which will contribute to the development of in-need communities. You might also be able to help widows cope with raising children without a monthly income, organising weekly home care clinics at the local hospital, assisting home-based care nurses run local community clinics, administer AIDS control programs, and distribute medication and food supplements.

On arrival, all international volunteers are given instruction to acquaint them with the local language, culture and what to expect. On some trips participants have the freedom to choose any type of work they are able to do, so you never have to be concerned about doing a job you are not capable of completing.

If you have any questions about whether this is the right type of experience for you then just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help. If you’ve found your dream project and are ready to start preparing then apply now and start the application process!
